• The springbok can achieve top speeds of around 55 miles per hour. While faster than most animals, it cannot outrun a determined cheetah.
• Springbok can jump more than 10 feet (3 meters) straight up. This kind of display is called pronking.
• The name of the springbok derives from two Afrikaans words that mean jump (spring) and antelope (bok).
